Description

April 4, 2018, marks the 50th anniversary of the night that the legacies of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (MLK) and Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) became forever entwined in Indianapolis - RFK's historic speech about the assassination of MLK, promoting peace, wisdom, and compassion in the face of such ugly violence, messages shared by MLK and RFK. The Kennedy King Memorial Initiative (KKMI), with the support of the City of Indianapolis, Indy Parks, King Park Development Corporation, and other community partners, is commemorating that night with events that recognize the importance of these two leaders, Indianapolis' place in their stories, and how MLK and RFK's messages still resonate today.

Join us for a community event with local, state, and national leaders that recognizes the legacies of MLK and RFK, while reflecting on the importance of these messages in the present and hope that the future may be one of equality, justice, and inclusion for our community and beyond. The event will include a keynote address from a national Civil Rights leader; a panel discussion with local, state, and national leaders; and participation from local school children.

While this is a free event and open to the public, seating will be limited, so a ticket is required. In addition to seats in tent, there will be additional opportunities to live stream the event around Indianapolis. For additional information, visit: kennedykingindy.org.

Expected guests include (but not limited to):
Congressman John Lewis, Civil Rights pioneer and witness to the events of 4.4.1968
Kerry Kennedy, daughter of RFK and founder of the RFK Human Rights Center
Mayor Joe Hogsett
Representatives from the Indianapolis City County Council

Special thanks to all of our sponsors who made this event possible. A full list can be found on the KKMI website: kennedykingindy.org
